No doubt, Jesus was incredibly bright—but look who else is pacifist!

Modern Theologians, Philosophers, and Writers:

Nelson Mandela--Was influenced by Gandhi to keep the South African apartheid revolution nonviolent.

Songwriters and Poets:

John Lennon

Bob Dylan

Scientists:

Albert Einstein -- Do you suppose he could see that war threatens the whole earth?

Dr. Benjamin Spock -- Famous pediatrician, author who truly valued life.

Linus Pauling -- Only Nobel prize winner in two different subjects, Chemistry and Peace

Carl Sagan -- He could see "The Universe" like no one else in the 20th century.

St. Francis of Assisi (1181-1226) -- He's not really modern, but is arguably the finest saint of all times, and a soldier and POW before conversion.  He was the epitome of clear thinking on nature and human organizations.

Many others, including Steve Audretch – No, I'm not famous and I don't presume to be in a class with any of these bright folks (or Jesus), but I take heart in knowing the crazy ideas I believe and read in the gospels are not considered crazy by many of the world's  brightest people.  And I do not presume to know what Jesus knew.  I simply read the gospels with a dispassionate objectivity to apply it to the most pressing problem of the 21st century-- the saving and the redemption-- the survival of mankind.
